My Areas of Expertise
Because of my experience in publishing and journalism, I specialize in a broad range of genres and formats: spanning children’s and young adult fiction and nonfiction, as well as adult narrative nonfiction, memoir, essay collections, humor, and lifestyle. During my time as an acquiring and developmental editor at Penguin Random House’s Penguin Young Readers division, I worked on picture books, middle grade, YA fiction and nonfiction, and graphic novels for all age groups. My list included everything from contemporary, literary fiction and historical fiction to sci-fi, fantasy, and identity-driven nonfiction—many of which went on to become New York Times bestsellers, Eisner Award winners, and ALA honorees.
My background in journalism and op-eds also informs my editorial approach to adult nonfiction. In particular, I’m drawn to memoirs, cultural criticism, and deeply researched narratives about music, movies, TV, politics, gender, psychology, history, climate, health, and society.
Whether it’s fiction or nonfiction, I love working on books that have a distinct voice, ask urgent questions, and help readers see the world in new ways. I’m especially interested in stories that center underrepresented points of view and explore themes of identity, culture, mental and physical health, gender, and belonging.
My Approach
Whether you're shaping a book proposal, tinkering with a manuscript, drafting an op-ed, or simply trying to make sense of the publishing landscape, my goal is to be a thoughtful creative partner every step of the way. I meet writers where they are—with empathy, flexibility, and practical, actionable guidance. I want you to walk away from the experience not only supported, but also feeling confident and energized as you move forward with your projects.
Services
-
This is a high-level editorial assessment of your book’s strengths, areas for growth, and market potential. Unlike a developmental or line edit, this service focuses on big-picture feedback rather than in-margin notes. This is ideal for writers in the early stages of self-editing their manuscript, or those preparing for a final revision before drafting a book proposal. Consider this a grounding, necessary moment that helps you see your book more clearly—and move forward with confidence.
This service includes:
✲ A full read of your manuscript.
✲ A 3-page editorial letter offering feedback on core elements like character development, pacing, structure, themes, clarity, and voice.
✲ A brief market analysis that includes potential comparative titles, insight into the current nonfiction or fiction landscape relevant to your project, and guidance on what to expect in the next stages of the publishing process—wherever you are.
✲ A 1-hour video call to walk through the feedback, addressing questions, thoughts, and concerns, as well as mapping out next steps to keep the momentum strong.

Developmental editing takes a manuscript evaluation to the next level. Whether it’s fiction or nonfiction, here I will provide not just big-picture insight, but a clear, customized path forward for your revisions. Whether you're working on fiction or nonfiction, I offer both deep, annotated feedback and a strategic editorial roadmap to help you revise with clarity and confidence.
This service includes:
✲ An annotated version of your manuscript that pinpoints targeted structural notes.
✲ A detailed 4-6 page editorial feedback letter, offering my assessments of your book’s narrative mechanics, as well as a thorough market analysis of where your book exists in the current market.
✲ A 1-hour post-edit video call to discuss follow-up questions and brainstorm ideas for revision.
✲ A dedicated check-in brainstorming session 6-8 weeks after our initial post-edit call. Here, we’ll discuss your progress, address any questions or challenges, and brainstorm solutions to help you stay on track. Whether you need fresh insights on tricky sections or guidance on how to prioritize revisions, this ensures you don’t have to navigate the rewrite alone.

Ready to dive into the details? If your manuscript’s big-picture structure feels solid, line editing is the next, essential step. This meticulous, line-by-line edit sharpens your language to ensure clarity, consistency, and impact. I’ll help smooth out narrative inconsistencies, tighten grammar, and refine your voice so it packs the biggest punch. With extensive knowledge of both AP and Chicago style guides, I also provide a preliminary copyedit to ensure your manuscript has that extra polish.
This service includes:
✲ A fully annotated manuscript with detailed line-level edits, as well as copy edits.
✲ A 1–2 page editorial summary highlighting key changes, suggestions, and any plot points that may need revisiting.
✲ A 1-hour follow-up video call to address questions, discuss concerns, and strategize next steps. -
Book proposals can sometimes be just as challenging—and creatively demanding—as writing the book itself. They’re also a valuable opportunity to start thinking about your project like an agent or publisher. Below are a couple of ways I can support you through the proposal process:
Book Proposal Edit
This is a comprehensive developmental edit of your existing book proposal. I’ll provide detailed margin notes and big-picture feedback on everything from book and author positioning to structure, pacing, comps, marketing/publicity strategy, and a developmental review of your sample chapter and outline. ✲ A full developmental mark-up of your proposal, with notes in the margins.
✲ A 2–3 page editorial letter outlining feedback, strengths, and opportunities for revision.
✲ A 1-hour video call to talk through edits, answer questions, and map out next steps.Book Proposal Development & Writing
If you're unsure of where to begin (or simply don’t have the time to write the proposal yourself), I offer a collaborative 1:1 program where we’ll work together on the proposal from the jump and shape your vision, clarify your goals, and strategically position your book. I’ll draft the proposal section by section, and we’ll review and refine each piece together to ensure it reflects your voice and ambition. This process takes 6-8 months and is ideal for authors who want a trusted editorial partner to guide the process and bring their proposal to life. This service includes:
✲ A fully developed, agent-ready book proposal.
✲ A custom roadmap and weekly 1:1 meetings to discuss each section.
✲ Ongoing collaboration and feedback throughout the writing process. -
